This season, we’ve proudly donated 800 trees to local landowners in Blidworth, Newark, Caunton, and Rainworth, helping to green up these areas and support local biodiversity.
In Southwell, we planted 60 trees near Southwell Dumble as part of an exciting rewilding project, with brilliant help from the eco-conscious students of Southwell Minster School. The trees were planted with the help of Stephen Freeman, and Southwell Minster School teacher, Emma Timms, helped organise the event. In the summer the group hope to return for an evening walk with Lynn to monitor the nocturnal wildlife on the site including various bat species. A big well done to everyone who got stuck in!
Our first ever wreath-making event at the Sherwood Seedbank in December was a great success and was a wonderful way to bring people together, get creative, and celebrate nature during the festive season. We have more events planned throughout 2025, visit our website for more information!
Izzy had the pleasure of attending the launch of the Hawtonville Community Tree Project at the Flower Pod in Newark. This project aims to create more green spaces in Hawtonville and is in partnership with Reach, Woodland Trust, Greenwood Community Forest, and Newark & Sherwood District Council.
Tree planting with local schools
We had a fantastic time planting trees with the pupils of Kirkby-in-Ashfield Primary School and Asquith Primary School, alongside the wonderful Corinna Brown.
We went to Kirkby in Ashfield primary school with The Sheriff of Nottingham (Richard Townsley), to plant 12 trees on the school grounds which were grown from locally collected seed. The children were really enthusiastic and each tree was given a name which consisted of Oakley, Bob and Taylor Swift to mention a few! They helped Richard plant the trees and sang happy birthday to each one.
We love to see children and young people getting involved and learning about the importance of trees!
We went to Asquith primary school to help their eco group with some tree and wildflower planting. The Eco group is a group of children who have applied and been chosen to support the development of the school looking at saving energy, recycling and making the site more wildlife friendly. They have lots of habitats around the school including a wildflower meadow, orchard, dead wood, stick pile, small pond and a Wild Garden! We planted native trees today to add to the variety of trees including crab apples to enhance our orchard and provide early blossom for pollinators.
A huge thank you to our amazing nursery volunteers, who keep turning up each week, rain or shine. Your dedication is truly appreciated!
