Sherwood Forest Trust is delighted to announce that it has secured funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, Awards for All, to help expand Sherwood’s Tree Nursery and inspire more people to get involved in caring for their local environment.
The funding will support a programme of community seed collecting, tree growing and learning activities across historic Sherwood, helping people of all ages discover more about native trees and the important role they play in supporting wildlife, improving biodiversity and creating resilient landscapes for the future.
Sherwood’s Tree Nursery grows native broadleaf trees from locally collected seed, ensuring that future generations of trees are well suited to the local environment. This new funding will help the Trust increase the number of trees grown, provide more opportunities for volunteering and learning, and encourage more people to become active custodians of their local green spaces.
As part of the project, the Trust will be running a series of free seed collecting and tree identification walks throughout the year. Participants will learn how to identify native tree species, why locally sourced seed is so important, how trees are grown at the community nursery, and how the “right tree, right place” approach benefits both people and nature.
The walks are open to everyone, whether you’re completely new to tree identification or already have an interest in the great outdoors. Donations are welcome and help support the continued work of the Community Tree Nursery.
