Care for your patch of Sherwood
Helping people across Nottinghamshire reconnect with the wide and ancient landscape of Sherwood Forest.

The Project
Sherwood Forest may be world-famous for its ancient oaks and legendary stories, but today much of the forest survives only in scattered pockets across Nottinghamshire. Many communities feel a long way from the woodland they grew up hearing about, and that’s something we want to change.
This project invites local people, schools, parishes, and community groups to “adopt” their patch of Sherwood and take practical action to help nature thrive. We’re working with community groups and local residents, offering conservation guidance, tree planting advice and native trees grown in our own nursery.
What the project offers
Community planting and habitat care
Groups receive bundles of locally grown native trees and shrubs, along with straightforward advice on planting, aftercare, and creating biodiversity-friendly spaces.

Events, guided walks, and hands-on learning
We host workshops and tours at our community nursery, plus guided woodland walks that explore seed collecting, tree propagation, local wildlife, and Sherwood Forest’s rich natural heritage.

A shared story
(Coming Soon)
An online hub will map everyone’s planting efforts, share photos, and celebrate progress from villages and communities right across the county.
Celebration at the Woodland Festival 2026
The project will feed into this summer’s Sherwood Forest Trust Woodland Festival — Nottinghamshire’s biggest woodland celebration — where residents can learn traditional woodland skills.

With thanks to our supporters
This project is supported by SC Johnson.
Their support helps us empower local people to take pride in their surroundings, improve their wellbeing through time in nature, and play an active role in restoring one of Britain’s most iconic landscapes.
Together, we’re helping to create a healthier, more connected, and more resilient Sherwood Forest for generations to come.
