A legacy of our brilliant Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Sprit of Wartime Sherwood project’ this huge public event returned to Thoresby Park on 10th–11th May, delighting visitors with a lively and nostalgic journey into the 1940s. From vintage vehicles and military encampments to wartime music and craft demos, the free family-friendly weekend was packed with living history.
Thousands attended across both days, enjoying highlights like the iconic Spitfire flyover, interactive re-enactments, and new features such as the Hiroshima VR experience and agricultural displays.
The Vintage Village was bustling, while the evening dances brought the spirit of the era to life.
A big shout-out goes to Susie, our Community Engagement & Education Officer, who played a key part in organising the event.
Her work helped ensure the smooth running of what many are calling the best year yet.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with visitors praising the event’s variety, atmosphere, and value.
Comments included: “Fantastic event – could not have been better!” and “Great for all ages – we loved it!”
Thanks to all who made the weekend so special – and to Susie for helping keep the wartime spirit alive.
