The ‘Purple Vision’

In 2005 the ‘Sherwood Habitats Steering Group’ published their vision of the future for Sherwood Forest.

The vision document sets out an holistic approach to the management and restoration of habitats within the Sherwood Natural Area over the next 50 years.  The vision’s principles set out the landscape scale nature of Sherwood Forest, with diverse landscapes of ecological and historical importance throughout the heart of Nottinghamshire.

The strategy is aimed at all relevant land owners and organisations, in particular, statutory and local government organisations who are invited to endorse the document.

It is essential for the principles to be incorporated into relevant strategic planning, business & local enterprise and tourism policies, for it to have any effect on wildlife, landscape and local communities alike.

The vision outlines how the ecological, historical and landscape value of the ancient haunts of Robin Hood could be maximized over the next fifty years.  A short time span when we consider our ancient oaks at the Sherwood Forest National Nature reserve are around 1000 years old!
